James opened his studio in Bembridge in 1982. On leaving school he undertook a four year City & Guilds Apprenticeship in Printfinishing and Bookbinding at Lewes Press in Sussex.

He continued further courses in book repair techniques at West Dean College, Chichester where he was privileged to be taught by the late Arthur Johnson; one of the country's most skilled and respected craftsman.

James will work on a wide range of books and documents, both traditional and contemporary from collectors editions to students theses.

He will also survey libraries for environmental control and advise on suitable storage and display for valued and treasured bibliographical objects.
